  • Bunmi) Oyinsan, PhD - Executive Director

    Olubunmi (Bunmi) Oyinsan is a Nigerian-Canadian scholar, author, and pan-African cultural educator with over thirty years of experience in community programming, television production, and cultural education. She holds a PhD in Gender and Women's Studies from York University and is the author of A Ladder of Bones (Guernica Editions, 2025). She is the founder of Sankofa Pan Africa Incorporated, whose digital education platform has reached over 100,000 subscribers and accumulated over 5.5 million YouTube views through culturally grounded pan-African history and heritage content. A recipient of the Canada Arts Council Writing Grant, the Ontario Arts Council Writing Grant, and a SSHRC Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, Dr. Oyinsan brings to Sankofa Futures Initiative Center a rare combination of academic rigour, creative practice, and decades of hands-on community engagement.

  • Sheri Dosunmu - Board Member

    Sheri Dosunmu is a senior strategy and partnerships leader with over twenty years of experience operating at the intersection of government, business, and complex stakeholder environments. She has advised elected officials and senior executives, led cross-ministry coordination on high-visibility public initiatives, and strengthened organizational alignment across diverse teams and partners. Her expertise spans executive advisory, governance modernization, sector strategy, and intergovernmental collaboration. Sheri brings to the board a deep understanding of the policy and institutional landscapes that shape the work of community-focused organizations, and a proven ability to build the partnerships and governance structures that enable organizations to deliver results in complex public and cross-sector settings.

  • Amatoritsero Ede, PhD — Board Member

    Amatoritsero Ede is an Associate Professor of English and Rev William Purvis Chair in Literature at Mount Allison University, where he specializes in African and African diaspora literatures. A published poet and literary scholar, he is the founder of the Maple Tree Literary Supplement, one of Canada's leading journals of Black literary and cultural expression. Dr. Ede brings to the board deep expertise in the intellectual and creative traditions of the African diaspora, as well as a longstanding commitment to creating platforms where Black writers and thinkers are heard and celebrated. His work bridges the academic and community dimensions of pan-African cultural life in Canada.

  • Joke Silva MFR — Board Member

    Joke Silva is one of West Africa's most celebrated actresses and a distinguished public figure whose work spans stage, screen, and international diplomacy. A UN Goodwill Ambassador and co-founder of the Lufodo Group, one of Nigeria's foremost entertainment companies, she serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Lagos. She is a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), one of Nigeria's highest national honours. Joke Silva brings to the board an unparalleled combination of cultural stature, international networks, and deep commitment to the arts as a vehicle for community transformation and African dignity. She is a founder and current president of Women in Film and TV Nigeria (FWIFT).

  • Olujoke Aliu — Board Member

    Olujoke Aliu is Co-Managing Partner at Aluko & Oyebode, one of Nigeria's foremost commercial law firms, where she specializes in corporate governance, regulatory matters, and intellectual property. She is qualified to practice law in both Nigeria and New York, and brings to the board a sophisticated understanding of the legal and governance frameworks that underpin strong, accountable organizations. Her expertise in intellectual property is particularly relevant to an organization whose work includes original cultural production, and her corporate governance experience strengthens the board's capacity to provide rigorous oversight as Sankofa Futures Initiative Center grows.

  • Olusoji Oyinsan — Board Member

    Olusoji Oyinsan is a veteran documentary filmmaker and former Assistant Director of Programmes at the Nigerian Television Authority. He served as the Nigerian Producer of The Africans: A Triple Heritage, the landmark documentary series jointly produced by the BBC and PBS in association with the NTA, and was trained at the Thomson Foundation in Scotland. With decades of experience in public broadcasting and documentary production across Africa and internationally, he brings to the board a deep understanding of media production, cultural storytelling, and the infrastructure required to bring ambitious pan-African content to global audiences.
